Overview
Protect your data with two essential features: snapshots and backups. Snapshots provide a point-in-time copy of your volume, while backups create a stored copy that can be used for disaster recovery.
Snapshots
- Purpose:
Capture the state of a volume at a specific moment in time. - Usage:
Use snapshots for quick recovery, cloning volumes, or testing changes without affecting the production data. - Creation Process:
- Select the volume you want to snapshot.
- Initiate a snapshot operation through the cloud panel.
- The snapshot is stored as an incremental copy, minimizing storage overhead.
Backups
- Purpose:
Create a durable, offsite copy of your volume for long-term retention. - Usage:
Ideal for disaster recovery and compliance, backups allow you to restore data even if the primary storage is compromised. - Creation Process:
- Choose the volume to back up.
- Initiate a backup, which is then stored in a separate backup repository.
- Monitor backup status to ensure completion and integrity.
Best Practices
- Regular Schedule: Automate snapshots and backups to ensure data is consistently protected.
- Test Restores: Periodically perform restore operations to verify data integrity.
- Retention Policy: Define clear retention policies to manage backup storage costs.
