Overview
Valex Cloud’s shared file systems provide a scalable network file sharing solution designed for enterprise workloads. These file shares enable multiple clients to access data concurrently using the industry-standard NFS protocol.
Key Components
-
Shares:
A share is a network file system resource that can be mounted by one or more clients. Shares are created with a default share type to simplify provisioning and ensure consistent performance. -
Share Networks:
Share networks define the network boundaries and connectivity details for your file shares. They help isolate traffic and ensure that shares are accessible only from designated networks. -
Share Groups:
Share groups allow you to organize and manage multiple shares as a single entity. Grouping shares makes it easier to apply common policies, monitor usage, and perform bulk operations. -
NFS Protocol:
Currently, the only supported file share protocol is NFS (Network File System). NFS provides a robust and familiar way to mount remote file systems on client machines, ensuring seamless access to shared data. -
IP Authorization:
IP authorization restricts access to shares based on client IP addresses. This additional security measure ensures that only approved hosts can mount your file shares.
Best Practices
- Consistent Configuration:
Always use the default share type for uniform performance and compatibility. - Network Segmentation:
Configure share networks to limit exposure and control which subnets can access your file shares. - Secure Access:
Utilize IP authorization to restrict share access to known and trusted client addresses. - Organize with Share Groups:
Use share groups to simplify management when deploying multiple related shares.
